Review Roundup: Radice, Mica, and Cantina Feliz

Since moving to the suburbs, we’ve found many of the dining out options are not just good, they’re downright delicious. Here’s another roundup of some of the places we’ve come to enjoy.

Radice. Pronounced “Radeechay,” this modern Italian restaurant in a strip mall in Blue Bell popped up on my radar after Philadelphia Inquirer restaurant critic Craig Laban gave it a three-bell rating. From woodfired pizzas to homemade pastas, you won’t find chicken parm on the menu here. Instead, try soffritto of baby artichokes, potatoes and leeks; grilled octopus, escarole, and ceci; or pappardelle with lamb ragu, peas and ricotta salata. And for dessert, Radice is famous for its cannoli with limoncello and ricotta filling. 722 W. DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell, PA 19422 http://www.radicerestaurant.com

Mica. We celebrated our second anniversary (back in 2012) at Mica in Chestnut Hill. Chip Roman’s second restaurant (Blackfish being the first) is not a BYOB, and has an inventive cocktail menu. “Farm to glass” drinks feature flavors like fresh beet juice, muddled tomatoes and sprigs of rosemary. The dining room is small and intimate. In addition to a daily-changing a la carte menu, you can chose from a five- or seven-course chef’s tasting menu. What we ate specifically escapes me now, a year later, but I do remember it was artfully prepared and delicious. 8609 Germantown Ave. Philadelphia, PA 19118  http://www.micarestaurant.com

Cantina Feliz. This spot was for a short time Alison Two, until Tim Spinner, the former chef at  Jose Garces’ Distrito, took it over in 2011. Lucky for us Montgomery County residents, Spinner brought with him much of Garces’ flair for creative Mexican cooking. Don’t miss the carnitas tacos or freshly made guacamole with crab. Kids are welcome (check out this adorable Little Amigos menu), and there are great happy hour specials Monday – Friday from 5:00 – 7:00. Cantina Feliz is a sister restaurant to La Calaca Feliz on 2321 Fairmount Ave. near the Philadelphia Museum of Art.  424 South Bethlehem Pike, Fort Washington, PA 19034  http://www.cantinafeliz.com
