Fig & Gorgonzola Appetizer

The other day I was in Trader Joe’s and found fresh figs in the produce section. Two whole pounds of them for $5.99! I wasn’t sure what I was going to create, but I knew it would involve gorgonzola cheese, so I bought that also.

After googling “figs and gorgonzola,” I came across some interesting ideas. My version turned out to be a very tasty appetizer that’s quite easy to prepare.

Recipe: Fig & Gorgonzola Appetizer

Fig

– 2 pounds of figs

– 4 oz. gorgonzola cheese

– 3 strips (turkey) bacon, cooked and crumbled

– balsamic vinegar

– salt to taste

Clean figs and remove stems. Cut each fig in half lengthwise. Use your thumb to make a small indent in the center of each fig. Drizzle each fig half with a few drops of balsamic vinegar and sprinkle with salt. Top each fig half with a mixture of gorgonzola cheese and crumbled bacon.

Bake at 350 degrees for 6 minutes. Broil for 1 minute. Serve immediately.
